From The Drake Hotel:
PAMELA DES BARRES READS FROM I’M WITH THE BAND
Join us at the Drake to hear the most famous groupie in rock n’ roll history, PAMELA DES BARRES, share stories from her groundbreaking memoir, I’m With The Band.
Few people have been where she’s been and seen what she has seen when it comes to the cultural/sexual/sociological/musical storm that her misunderstood generation brought about. Not only was Des Barres a member of one of the first all-girl groups, The GTOs, (Girls Together Outrageously), mentored and produced by the late avant rock genius, Frank Zappa, she was in the midst of musical greatness on a daily basis. As ‘the world’s most famous groupie,’ she spent quality time with many of the most revered rock stars in history. Considered a ‘supergroupie,’ she was taken on the road by several rock gods, sharing the musical madness with The Who’s Keith Moon, Led Zeppelin’s Jimmy Page and Stones frontman Mick Jagger to name a mere few.
She was attracted to men who create; brilliant artists who paved the way for the rest of the world to follow. And they inspired her to do the same. She kept copious diaries about it all, and wrote it up in her International best-seller, I’m With The Band, and several others.
Des Barres will be at the Drake to read some of her favourite chapters from her famous memoirs, and books will be available for signing.
